Tango in Swedish Companies during 1995

(by Marianne Svensson Celemi Stockholm)

Ericsson Radio Systems, Linköping

Used Tango initially for personnel development in their research and development division. As this organization serves internal customers primarily, they needed a way to understand the end userUs perspective on their products. Apples & Oranges was also used to provide a common financial language. Ericsson will be using Tango in other parts of the company and at other locations in Sweden.

Skandia

This insurance giant is the first company in the world to put intellectual capital on their balance sheet. They use Tango to provide their managers with a common language and understanding of the values which a knowledge company works with. (See article about Skandia in Fortune magazine, October 1994.)

Union Data

This relatively small (appr. 80 people) computer company used Apples & Oranges and Tango in the entire company to increase the employeesU understanding of the market they serve. Previously, they had little competition, but recently they realized that their customers had more alternatives to choose from and they thus needed to mobilize their organization to meet this new competition. In addition, the company used their Tango experience to engage their personnel in finding new customers/markets and develop its business.

Europeiska Försäkringsaktiebolaget

This international insurance company used Tango to help all their subsidiary directors understand the importance of strategic planning. Their goals were to become more customer-driven as well as to communicate what a knowledge company actually is and what is important for their company to be able to develop their business as an international concern.

Enea Data

This computer company which is predominantly made up of engineers, used Tango to provide its personnel with a better understanding of how business works. They were then able to discuss their own situation and apply their learning experience to the business.

Institute for Transportation Research

This very small (25 employees) organization (which has a subsidiary in Germany) used Tango in a way which very closely tied the simulation to their own working situation. After the first few years, they brought in questions about their own company and discussed a specific topic between each year. Examples of Topics/Questions: - What is the job of our company leaders? - Are we a knowledge organization? If so, how can we make use of that fact?
